The City of Bangor has been operating public transportation since December 1972.
BAT SOARS TO NEW HEIGHTS
Annual BAT ridership is approaching 900,000, an increase of more than 25% in just three years. In October of 2008, local buses set an all time monthly record providing 80,500 rides. This is more than double the number of monthly riders carried ten years ago. Two factors combined in October, 2008 to push bus usage higher, higher fuel prices and the start of a downward spiral in the overall economy. Both helped make BAT bus service a serious cost-saving options for more people than ever before. BAT bus drivers, managers, and planners have set a new goal: one million riders in 2010. They encourage all area residents to take a ride on the BAT-to discover the secret of the BAT'as success and to help achieve this new ambitious goal for 2010.
