The City of Bangor, Maine Fire Department is accepting applications to fill immediate openings for Firefighter/EMT (Paramedic preferred) positions.  Requirements include the following: possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license,   high school diploma or equivalent.  Applicants must at a minimum possess a Maine or National Registry basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license.  Preference may be given to candidates with firefighting experience (FFI & FFII).  Candidates will undergo an extensive evaluation including written fire & medical exams, practical medical knowledge test, and physical fitness test.   Successful applicants will be required to undergo a background check and psychological evaluation. Bangor firefighters work an attractive 42 hour work schedule and have a highly competitive wage package.

A new collective bargaining agreement includes a comprehensive benefits package with Maine State Retirement 2C direct benefit plan or the ICMA-RC 401a direct contribution plan.
