Bangor International Airport

Welcome to Bangor International Airport

Bangor International AirportBangor International Airport (BGR) is owned and operated by the City of Bangor. The Airport is an "enterprise fund," which means that the expense of operating Bangor International Airport comes from Airport revenue.

Revenues are generated by air service operations, resident aviation related industrial companies, real estate holdings, cargo, international charter flights, and corporate/general aviation traffic.

No taxpayer money is used to operate and administer the Airport. The airport receives Federal and State funds for capital improvement projects, including revenue from a special tax that is included in each ticket purchased at BGR.

Bangor International is working constantly to insure a wide range of quality domestic service to our region.  Airport personnel stay in close contact with representatives of major airlines and the Airport invests heavily in marketing activities aimed at airline and passenger attraction.  Today, the airport is served by a variety of domestic carriers providing service to Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Detroit, and other regional hubs.  The majority of Bangor's service is now provided on regional jets.

The airlines at Bangor are resident tenants and are private companies. The Airlines--not the Airport--set fares, select equipment, and determine routes and frequency of service. All airline service decisions are based on projected and actual economic performance, which is a reflection of actual local demographics and economic health. BGR competes against hundreds of other cities nationwide for service upgrades and additions.

Oversight of BGR is via the City Manager and the Bangor City Council. The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, a subcommittee of the City Council, meets regularly to discuss issues and set policy relating to the operation of the Airport.
