Living In Bangor
Safety
Bangor is one of the safest communities in the country in which to
live, work, or visit. Our crime against persons rate is the second
lowest among metropolitan areas of comparable size and far below the
rates of most larger metro areas. Our policy is to respond to all calls
for service, regardless of the nature of the call or the potential
loss (most law enforcement agencies have a minimum loss value that
must be met before an officer will respond and file a report).
With 80 sworn personnel, the Police Department is able to respond quickly to calls for service, with an average response time of 15 minutes for all calls and under 5 minutes for emergency calls. Our citizens have a sense of security that is rare in a city of this size or any size. Regardless of our metropolitan profile, we still have a small town kind of safety. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
The Bangor Fire Department provides paramedic service throughout the City. With an ambulance/rescue unit at each of the City’s three fire stations, first responder engine companies, and automatic defibrillators in police patrol vehicles, emergency personnel are normally on scene within three to five minutes of a call. With two major hospitals within the City, those in need of services are rapidly in the hands of medical specialists. Few communities in the country can match the level and quality of emergency medical services provided to Bangor residents.
