Closures & Other Relevant Information Regarding Anticipated Winter Storm

BANGOR, Maine – The City is taking steps to prepare for what the National Weather Service is describing as a significant winter storm, with up to 10 inches of heavy, wet snow in the forecast that is expected to fall fast and wind gusts in excess of 40 mph. These steps include closing City Hall, Public Health Department on Thursday, April 4, and other nonessential services.

Additionally, Fixed Route and ADA Paratransit Services provided by Community Connector public transportation will not be in service Thursday, April 4, because of the storm, but normal operations and hours will resume Friday, April 5.

Public Works is issuing a citywide snow clearing order starting at 11:00 pm, April 4, through 6:00 am, April 5, to allow for plowing and snow removal operations on City Streets.

During this snow clearing order, vehicles may not be parked on city streets between the hours of 11:00 pm and 6:00 am. Vehicles left on the street during this parking ban may be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense. Vehicles are also prohibited from parking in most city parking lots. There are three City parking lots in the downtown district where vehicles may be parked during a parking ban:

· Lower level of the Columbia Street Parking Deck (entrance on Hammond St) - 5:00 pm - 7:00 am

· Lower level of Pickering Square Parking Garage (on the Kenduskeag Plaza side) - 5:00 pm - 7:00 am

· The rear section of the Upper Abbot Square Parking lot on Harlow Street - 6:00 pm - 6:00 am

Generators should only be run outside and the public should exercise caution when using candles during a power outage.

Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors to ensure they're warm and safe.

Report downed trees to Public Works at (207) 992-4500. Never touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with a downed power line and never drive over a downed line. A downed line is an emergency and should be reported by calling 911.

Emergency personnel are available to make welfare checks. To report concerns, please contact (207) 947-7382.

The public should not hesitate to call 911 to report an emergency.

If the need arises, such as if large sections of the City lose power, then the Parks and Recreation Center at 647 Main St. will open for warming, charging devices and to take showers. Hours will be posted to the City's website and social media platforms should the center open.
