11/24/2014 - Buy Local for the Holidays in Downtown Bangor
Bangor, ME – Shop small and buy local this holiday season in downtown Bangor. As the backbone of the local economy, many of Bangor’s independent, family-owned retailers and restaurants provide a quaint and relaxing get-away from the typical holiday shopping hustle. The Downtown Bangor Partnership encourages patrons to visit downtown, highlighting three special shopping events this season: Plaid Friday (November 28), Small Business Saturday (November 29), and Downtown Holiday Open House (December 10).

Plaid Friday, November 28, is an alternative to the big box store “Black Friday,” and is designed to promote both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays. Why plaid? “The idea of plaid was bringing together all of the small businesses, weaving them into one strong business,” Kerri Johnson, founder of Plaid Friday, says. “Together we make a strong community.” From 10% discounts on your purchase if you wearing plaid to FREE parking on street and in the Parking Garage, downtown businesses are finding fun ways to show their thanks for shopping local! Visit https://www.facebook.com/DowntownBangor/events for a list of participating locations and specials.

Small Business Saturday, November 29, celebrates and supports the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy, and preserve neighborhoods around the country. It is a commitment, by consumers, to visit their small business neighbors as part of their holiday shopping. Visit https://www.facebook.com/DowntownBangor/events for a list of participating locations and specials. FREE parking on street and in the Parking Garage.

Downtown Bangor Holiday Open House, December 10, is a chance for folks to visit their favorite store, leisurely shop, and enjoy a night out in downtown Bangor! The Maine Discovery Museum is hosting “Parents Night Out” for adults to drop their kids off for a fun-filled evening at the Museum while they shop, eat, and enjoy downtown.
