Visiting Bangor
Transportation
Bangor is located on I-95, the major north-south corridor on the East
Coast. I-395 provides quick access to State Route 1-A which connects
to the Maine Coast. Canada is 90 minutes away on State Route 9. Virtually
any location in Bangor is only ten minutes away. If you are tired of
long commutes, gridlock, and traffic frustration, Bangor’s the
place to be.
Bangor
International Airport offers over 50 flights a day to and from
major cities in the Northeast, national and regional hubs, and Florida
and the Caribbean, with most service provided on modern jet aircraft.
In these days of long lines and frustrating waits at airports, Bangor
International continues to provide fast, courteous, and convenient
service. Non-stop destinations include Boston, New York, Detroit, Philadelphia,
Cincinnati, Atlanta, and Newark. Bangor is served by Delta, American, US Airways,
Continental, and Northwest.
Inter-city bus service is provided by both Concord Trailways and Greyhound, with frequent service to Boston and beyond. These services provide direct connections to Amtrak in either Portland, Maine or Boston.
The
BAT Community Connector provides local bus service to the communities
of Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Veazie, Orono and Old Town. This regional
system, operated by the City of Bangor, is especially convenient for
those who prefer not to rely on private transportation. The BAT serves many
of our major employment and activity centers including the Bangor Mall
and the University of Maine at Orono.
Bangor is within convenient highway travel distances of cities in Maine and the New England/Atlantic Canada region. Augusta, the state capital, is about an hour away. Portland can be reached in two hours, Saint John New Brunswick in three, and Boston and Montreal in four to five hours.
