City Council Chambers
AGENDA
In April, with City Council approval, the Police Department applied for
funding for six new positions under the Federal COPS Hiring Recovery
Program. In late July, the Department
was notified that the City had been awarded funding for four new
positions. As part of the application
approval process, staff was directed to provide the Council with an opportunity
for further review and discussion regarding accepting the grant award, if the
City was successful. The City must make
a decision whether to accept the award or a portion thereof no later than October
28, 2009. Given this time requirement,
staff would like to begin the discussion concerning the City’s response. Please see the attached memo from Chief
Gastia, who will be present at the meeting.
This item was tabled from the Committee meeting of August 25th. The Chief will provide the Committee with an
overview of several recent incidents of concern in Bangor.
Committee Chair Wheeler has requested a discussion concerning issues
related to the City’s Government Access Channel. Staff will be contacting those
who are directly involved with system operation and maintenance, including
Time-Warner, and inviting representatives to be present to answer questions.
The annual MMA Business Meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Augusta Civic Center in conjunction with the Annual MMA Fall Convention. MMA by-laws entitle each member community to designate one voting representative and an alternate to participate in voting at the meeting. Any Councilor(s) planning to attend could be designated as the City’s voting delegate or alternate. Or, the City Manager is willing to be the voting delegate and the Assistant City Manager is willing to be the alternate voting delegate.
