Winter Parking Regulations

In the Downtown Parking Management District

In the Downtown Parking Management District, parking on city streets is prohibited when the Public Works Director posts a parking ban for snow removal. During a parking ban, vehicles may not be parked on city streets in downtown between the hours of 11pm and 6am. Vehicles left on the street during a parking ban may be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Look for parking ban announcements on the home page of this website, our Facebook and Twitter pages, and via our email alerts.

Vehicles are also prohibited from parking in most city parking lots downtown between 11pm and 6am during a parking ban. There are three city parking lots in downtown where vehicles may be parked from 5pm-7am:

  • Lower level of Columbia Street deck (entrance on Hammond Street at the corner of Central Street)
  • Lower level of the Pickering Square Parking Garage on the Kenduskeag Plaza side (Kenduskeag Plaza West)
  • The rear of the Upper Abbot Lot on Harlow Street (area is marked with signs)

City-Wide Parking Ban Details (Outside of the Downtown Parking Management District)

PARKING BAN CURRENTLY IN EFFECT
through March 31, 2021 - 12:00 midnight until 6:00 am, 7 days/week.

A city-wide parking ban for all areas outside the Downtown Parking Management District is implemented each winter to allow for more effective snow removal activities. This city-wide ban starts each year when the first Downtown Parking Ban is announced and continues every night through March 31st.

Please be aware that vehicles parked on the street between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 6:00 am may be ticketed and towed.

Odd/Even Parking Rules Details:

ODD/EVEN PARKING RULES IN EFFECT through March 31, 2021 - 6:00 am until 12:00 midnight, 7 days/week.

At the same time the city-wide parking ban goes into effect the city also implements new daytime parking rules to allow for more effective snow removal activities.

On an even calendar day (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) parking is allowed on even sides of the street.

On an odd calendar day (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.) parking is allowed on odd sides of the street.

You can look for house numbers to determine the odd or even sides of the street - for example, 129 Maple St is on the odd side of the street, 130 Maple St is on the even side of the street.

If a street is regulated by posted signs then this odd/even rule does not apply.

Please be aware that vehicles parked on the wrong side of the street may be ticketed and towed.
