Environmental Management

Mission Statement

The Office of Environmental Management was created in January 2005 to assist managers of City departments that are subject to regulatory requirements of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, the State Department of Environmental Protection, and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration. In addition, the Office works throughout the City to improve our environmental practices and to reduce the impact of our operations on our natural resources. Reporting to the City’s Finance Director, the Environmental Coordinator develops, implements, and administers a comprehensive citywide compliance and training program including environmental health, chemical control, and hazardous waste management that include. Programs may include, but are not limited to:

  • Spill prevention and cleanup
  • Industrial and Municipal Stormwater including Best Management Practices and Green Infrastructure
  • Compliance audits of City property and departments
  • Citizen complaints related to odors, spills, and other concerns
  • Stream and roadside cleanups
  • Coordination of proper storage, shipment, and transport of Hazardous Waste by a third party contractor
  • Liaison to other partners wanting to work in unison with the City on shared projects
