The City of Bangor, Maine is seeking qualified candidates for the position of City Solicitor. This position will serve as administrative head of the City’s Legal Department and will focus on providing sound legal advice and expertise to the City Council, City Manager, other City Departments, and City Boards and Commissions, largely regarding local ordinances and State and Federal legislative matters which may impact the City. The City of Bangor is seeking a candidate who can work with a variety of professionals to make significant contributions to strategic planning and serve as an important member of the City’s overall management team.

Successful candidates must possess a 4-year degree (Bachelor of Science or Arts) from an accredited undergraduate college or university as well as a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. Admission to practice before the courts of the State of Maine and the U.S. District Court is required. An ideal candidate will possess demonstrated legal experience in a municipal environment, which includes drafting ordinances, overseeing court proceedings, directing and supervising others, and communicating effectively with City officials, staff, and the public. The ideal candidate should demonstrate an ability to contribute to municipal planning and development within a team environment.

This position is appointed by and reports to the Bangor City Council.
