GROUND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN - BANGOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

POSITION: Ground Support Equipment Technician 
DEPARTMENT: Fleet Services / GSE Shop  
DIVISION: Maintenance


Incumbent serves as Ground Support Equipment Technician for the Fleet Services / GSE Division.

I. DUTIES:

Perform general repairs and maintenance of airport ground support equipment such as ground power generators, jet engine air-starts, deicer trucks, fuel trucks, stair trucks, cargo loaders and all departmental vehicles and equipment.

Inspects and maintains all hydraulic systems, as required.

Evaluate equipment electrical systems, and light to moderate wiring repairs and replacements, as necessary.

Use gas and arc welding equipment in effecting necessary repairs.

Perform light vehicle and equipment body work and repairs.

Assist with fuel truck maintenance to include, weekly inspections, monthly inspections and preventative maintenance.

Operate heavy equipment, as assigned.

Perform related duties as assigned.

II. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Working knowledge of a variety of aircraft ground support equipment, including but not limited to conveyors, air starters, generators, forklifts, heaters, air conditioners, power stair units and fuel tankers.

Working knowledge of the accepted principles and practices involved in large/heavy equipment repair and maintenance.

Working knowledge of the accepted principles and practices involved in gasoline and diesel repair and maintenance and familiarity with diagnostic, overhaul and repair procedures and tools.

Must be certified, or become certified within 1 year, to perform State of Maine vehicle inspections. (Class A and D)

Knowledge of hydraulic system functions and repair procedures.

Ability to diagnose electrical failures and perform light to moderate wiring.

Ability to effectively and safely use welding and torch equipment.

Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics strongly recommended.

Ability to work independently, efficiently, and work with others when needed.

Ability to assist with aircraft handling as situations may require.

Available for 24/7 call-in when needed.

ASE Certification recommended but not required.

III. RESPONSIBILITY

Incumbent is responsible for the diagnosis and repair of a variety of ground support equipment and works independently, making decisions and taking necessary actions to effect necessary repairs. Care and skill is required to protect equipment. Generally work is performed according to general instructions. Incumbent is frequently forced to deviate from standard practices and to effectively innovate to achieve desired results.

Reports directly to Ground Support Equipment Manager.

IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT

Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 75lbs. Incumbent frequently lifts equipment and related components of moderate weight, and often works in awkward and/or cramped conditions, performing many functions in a prone, stooping, kneeling, or crouched position. Prolonged, intense physical strain is not associated with normal operations.

V. WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent performs duties both in and out of doors in varying weather conditions, and is frequently exposed to excessive noise, grease, dirt, and hazardous materials. Safety precautions must be observed at all times to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

Pay range is $22.91- $30.04 per hour and includes a comprehensive full-time benefits package.
