Incumbent serves as Recreation Coordinator, responsible for organizing, leading, and supervising various recreational activities for children, teenagers, and adults of all ages within the Community.

DUTIES:

Plans, organizes, leads, and supervises various recreational activities, sports programs/camps and special events.

Supervises seasonal employees and volunteers, recruiting, interviewing, scheduling, and regularly evaluating employee and volunteer performance.

Schedule and coordinates game officials for varies sports leagues.

Maintains a variety of records, including but not limited to: registrations, volunteer forms, accident/incident reports, employee time sheets.

Promotes recreational programs among general public by delivering speeches, designing brochures and fliers, writing press releases, newspaper articles and public service announcements.

Plans, organizes, creates and maintains all essential content using our Recreation Software. Utilizes and manages sports team and umpire software.

Creates content and maintains social media platforms.

Assist office staff including answering general phone calls. May assists with other divisions such as pools, child care & maintenance.

Works closely with school principals and athletic directors.

Develops and maintains activity schedules, team assignments and equipment assignments for various recreational activities and programs.

Assists with formulating and evaluating recreational programs and prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.

Attends as needed monthly Advisory Committee meetings, providing information and making policy and program recommendations.

Occasionally attends conferences and training seminars as necessary.




I. JOB REQUIREMENTS

A degree in Recreation, Education or related field or equivalent experience in recreation field with a non-related degree is preferred.

Considerable knowledge of the full range of theories and principles accepted in the field of recreation, and ability to apply such knowledge to meet the recreational and social needs of children, teenagers and adults of all ages in the community.

Ability to instruct and provide effective field supervision to subordinate recreation personnel and volunteers.

Ability to prepare and maintain accurate program and financial records and reports.

Ability to express thoughts both orally and in writing.

Ability to work a flexible schedule which will include nights and weekends.

Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.


II. DIFFICULTY OF WORK

Incumbent performs a broad array of duties, with inter-relationships among them self-evident. Analysis and independent judgment is needed in selecting the appropriate guidelines, instructions, or rules to apply to specific tasks.

Incumbent supervises and participates in a variety of athletic programs both in and out of doors, requiring moderate physical effort.

III. RESPONSIBILITY

Incumbent applies standard practices and procedures of public recreation in meeting the social and recreational needs of community youth and adults. Majority of work is performed according to general instructions, with work reviewed for adherence to instructions, soundness of judgment and conformance with department activities.

Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation.

IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Incumbent maintains frequent contact with department superiors and subordinate personnel, volunteers, program participants, representatives of schools, community groups and agencies and members of the general public for a variety of purposes, including explanation of policy and program goals, coordination and supervision of recreational program and activities and rendering program services.

Pay range is $20.68 to $27.80 per hour (based on a 40-hour work week) and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
