11/4/2016 - The City of Bangor Announces Launch of Online Streaming of Public Meetings
The City of Bangor announces the launch of a new online service that the public can use to watch City Council and other public meetings live from most internet-connected devices, including smart phones and tablets. In addition to live coverage, meetings will be available for on-demand playback, allowing Bangor residents to watch meetings at their convenience. The public can access the online streaming and playback services via http://videos.bangormaine.gov. Public meetings will continue to be broadcast live on the City's government access channel, local channel 7 for Time Warner Cable customers.

The online streaming service is another tool that residents can use to stay connected with what is happening in City Hall and is part of a broader City initiative to support information transparency. 'More and more people are relying on their mobile devices to remain informed', says Meghan Collins, Public Information Coordinator for the City, adding, 'In order to remain responsive and encourage citizen engagement, the City is leveraging media technologies widely used by the City's constituents'.

Residents can try out the new service on Tuesday, November 1st at 5:30 PM to watch a live broadcast of the Special City Council meeting during which the Council will consider an ordinance to enact a moratorium on retail marijuana social clubs. Future live broadcasts will be added as meetings are scheduled.

The City partnered with Town Hall Streams, a Maine-based company, to deploy the streaming service. Town Hall Streams provides online streaming services to a number of Maine municipalities.
