2/15/2017 - The City of Bangor Reminds Residents of Winter Parking Rules, Provides Parking Lots for Overnight Parking in Advance of Winter Storm

In the wake of a storm that dropped more than 2 feet of snow in Bangor and in advance of a second storm expected to bring another 6-12 inches of snow to the area on Thursday, City staff are reminding residents of winter parking regulations. From Nov 1 to March 31, on street parking, outside of Downtown, is regulated by an ‘odd/even’ rule; from 6 AM to 12 midnight, cars can park on the odd numbered side of the street on odd numbered days and on the even numbered side of the street on even numbered days. Police will be enforcing this rule to ensure that parked cars on narrow streets are not going to interfere with snow removal operations and that emergency vehicles can access side streets. Residents should be mindful of providing enough room for snowplows and emergency vehicles when parking on the street and seek alternative options if the street is too narrow.

A parking ban is in effect from 11 PM to 6 AM tonight (2/15). Parking lots located at Pancoe Pool off 13th street and on Mt. Hope Ave, located near Cameron Stadium, are available for overnight parking tonight (2/15) and tomorrow night (2/16). Vehicles can also park in two Downtown locations, under the Columbia Street Parking Deck or under the Pickering Square Garage next to Kenduskeag Plaza West.
The City has five sidewalk plows working to clear snow from sidewalks on main streets. Residents are asked to remain patient with sidewalk plowing; it will take time to clear the main sidewalks and even longer to get to the sidewalks on side streets.

Information about winter parking rules and parking bans is available on the City’s website: www.bangormaine.gov.
