1/8/2015 - City of Bangor Announces Selection of City Assessor

At its meeting on January 12, 2015, the Bangor City Council will consider the formal appointment of Philip S. Drew as City Assessor. Mr. Drew will replace former Assessor Benjamin F. Birch who retired on December 31, 2014 after serving more than 22 years as City Assessor.

Mr. Drew has been employed by the City of Bangor Assessing Department for 20 years, beginning his career as a part time Property Lister, progressing to Appraisal Technician, and most recently working in the role of Appraiser for the past 14 years. Mr. Drew holds a BS degree in Agribusiness and Resource Economics from the University of Maine. He is also a Certified Maine Assessor and a Certified Maine Real Estate Appraiser. Mr. Drew is active in the Maine Assessor’s Association and has instructed classes in various Assessing disciplines.

According to Council Chair Nelson Durgin, “Mr. Drew possessed the depth and breadth of experience and knowledge in this specialized field that the Council was hoping to find in our next City Assessor. We are very excited that Mr. Drew will be leading the important functions associated with the Assessor’s Office and we look forward to him assuming this position. Mr. Drew is well known in the community for his appraisal work in the Assessing Department and we anticipate a smooth transition”.

Mr. Drew commented that “I am honored and pleased to have been selected for this position. For the last 20 years, my professional career has been focused on assessing and appraising work. This new position will permit me to continue to serve the city in a new capacity. I look forward to building on the efforts of Mr. Birch and the staff in the Assessor’s Office”.

Mr. Drew will begin his position immediately following appointment by the City Council.
