Maine State Housing Authority’s Homeowner Assistance Fund

Are you a homeowner?  Are you having trouble paying your mortgage, utilities, or other housing related costs?  Maine State Housing Authority’s Homeowner Assistance Fund may be able to help.  The fund is for income-eligible homeowners struggling with housing costs due to the COVID 19 pandemic.  The difficulty may be due to a COVID-related loss of income or an increase in expenses.  The program can provide funds to:

  • Eliminate or reduce past due payments or other delinquent amounts on mortgage loans

  • Avoid foreclosure and work with your lender to develop an affordable monthly payment

  • Settle past due bills including property taxes, HOA or Condo fees, and cooperative maintenance charges

  • Resolve overdue payments for utilities such as electricity, water, sewer, and gas; and home energy such as oil, kerosene, propane, wood, and internet access services.

To qualify, you must have experienced COVID-related financial hardship after January 21, 2020, your property must be located in the State of Maine, and the property must be occupied as your primary residence.

Program details and application materials can be found at https://haf.mainehousing.org/
