About the Project

This project is a joint effort between the City of Bangor and the Bangor Water District. The Contractor is Lou Silver, Inc., of Veazie, Maine. Prior to the surface restoration of the park area, water and sewer infrastructure will be replaced. Electrical services will be upgraded, which will allow for events with larger electrical demands to be held in West Market Square. Lighting will be added and tall shrubbery will be replaced with small plantings. Following utility work, complete surface restoration will begin. The sidewalk on the south side of Broad Street will be enlarged, increasing the useable park area. Accessibility will be improved. Pavers will be installed in the same style as the waterfront, providing a visual link between downtown and the waterfront.

The City plans to hold periodic meetings throughout the project duration to update citizens and project neighbors of progress and inform them of upcoming work or any changes to traffic patterns. Broad Street and Bangor Alley will likely be closed to vehicular traffic throughout much of the project. Traffic on Main Street may need to be rerouted for a short duration to accommodate sewer replacement work, which is planned to occur during nighttime hours to minimize traffic disruptions.

The Contractor is planning to maintain the sidewalks abutting the buildings on each side of the park as project access ways leading through the project area and to the front doors of all of the project neighbors.
