The City of Bangor's Police Department is hiring for a Part Time Custodian 

DUTIES:

Performs custodial duties at the Bangor Police Station. Resupplies paper goods, cleaning and related supplies throughout their areas of responsibilities.

Responsible for snow and ice removal activities. Subject to call in while off duty during times of inclement weather.

Responsible for cleaning police vehicles and areas of the building that have been contaminated with bodily fluids. (ie: blood, vomit, etc)

Performs routine maintenance in and around the Police Department, which includes cleaning of floors, restrooms, trash removal, painting and cleaning of interior and exterior surfaces and equipment.

Obtains material and equipment from other City departments as needed.

Assist with building inspections by State and Federal agencies as necessary.

Must be able to reach, bend, squat, and climb without difficulty or with reasonable accommodations.

Basic ability to operate a computer (MS Windows).

Must be able to work unsupervised.

Must be trustworthy, honest and able to take and understand direction from superiors.

Performs other duties as assigned.


I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Working knowledge of building maintenance duties, light carpentry and ability to perform custodial and routine maintenance of building, equipment and machinery.

Ability to use various equipment, including snow blower, mower, and power and hand tools.

Knowledge of applicable safety precautions and procedures.

Must have valid State of Maine vehicle operator’s license and maintain good driving record.

Ability to deal with members of the general public in a courteous manner.


II. RESPONSIBILITY

Incumbent is responsible for the custodial activities and the routine maintenance of department equipment and machinery, and works according to general instructions and departmental procedures to effect equipment maintenance and repairs, with work checked by supervisor at critical phases and upon completion. Care and skill is required to protect equipment, vehicles and related tools.

Reports directly to Services Division Sergeant or designee.


III. PHYSICAL EFFORT

Incumbent occasionally lifts equipment or materials of moderate weight (up to 50lbs.), with occasional bending and stooping, requiring moderate physical effort with strain sustained for short periods of time.



IV. WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbent performs duties both in and out of doors in varying weather conditions. Safety precautions must be observed at all times to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

The selected applicant must participate in an oral interview and successfully complete both a polygraph examination and medical examination.
