City of Bangor Storm Information

Bangor, Maine: The City of Bangor is closely following the track of a winter storm anticipated to arrive in Bangor on Thursday morning, January 4. The latest forecast indicates the potential for snowfall, 10-18 inches in the Bangor area, with powerful wind gusts up to 40 mph. The immediate threats of this storm include extreme cold, winds, blizzard conditions, power outages and delayed fuel deliveries due to unprecedented demand.

City staff have been working closely with state and local partners, including utility companies, in preparation for the storm. To help residents prepare, the City offers the following list of storm preparation tips and information:

Plan for power outages
Check and/or replace all smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries to ensure they work in case the power goes out. Generators must run outside and the public ought to exercise caution when using candles. Those without generators should plan for what they will do in the event of a prolonged power outage.

Warming centers
The designated warming centers are as follows:
Bangor City Hall - open 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Bangor Parks and Recreation - open 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Bangor Police Department - open 24/7
Bangor Fire Stations - open 24/7
If you need assistance getting to a warming center, contact the Bangor Police Department at 207-947-7382.

Emergency shelter
The City will alert the public of any emergency shelters via the City's website (www.bangormaine.gov), Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/BangorCityHall/), and Twitter page (https://twitter.com/Cityofbangorme). Information will also be posted to local news outlets.

Consider elderly or homebound neighbors
Residents are encouraged to check on elderly or homebound neighbors to make sure they have what they need to stay warm and safe during the storm. City of Bangor emergency personnel are available to make welfare checks. To request a welfare check, please call the Bangor Police Department at 207-947-7382.
