Holiday Tree Arrives in West Market Square on November 28

BANGOR, Maine – The City of Bangor’s Holiday Tree will be installed in West Market Square on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, starting at 8:30 am. For over 25 years, resident Dan Sprague has searched year-round for the perfect tree to become the City of Bangor Holiday Tree.  This year, the chosen tree was harvested right here within the City of Bangor and is a beautiful 39’ balsam fir tree.

David McElvain, owner of Hartt’s Electric in Levant, assists Dan with the harvesting and raising of the tree each year, donating his time and equipment.  Public Works employees will secure the tree and the Electrical Division will head up the installation of the lights. Frazier Signal Technologies has donated their time and equipment to help string the lights around the tree.

The Rotary Club of Bangor is hosting the annual Festival of Lights parade on Saturday, December 2nd beginning at 4:30 pm.  This year’s parade theme is, “CREATE HOPE IN THE WORLD.”  The parade will leave Exchange Street, move down Harlow Street, Central Street, Main Street, and pass the reviewing stand at Davenport Park. Following the end of the parade Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be transported in a horse-drawn carriage to West Market Square to participate in the tree lighting ceremony.
