Police Department Mission Statement

The Bangor Police Department exists for the purpose of providing the highest level of personal safety to the citizens of this community, protecting the rights guaranteed under the state and federal constitutions, and safeguarding the property of the community.

To accomplish our mission, we will:

  • Work as a team within our department, within the city organization, with the citizens of this community, and with other agencies.
  • Respond to all requests for assistance where lives, or property, are endangered.
  • Endeavor to identify and solve community problems with the use of combined resources.
  • Educate the community about their role in law enforcement, and encourage their involvement.
  • Maintain a high level of training among all employees, and hold all members accountable for their actions.

The Bangor Police Department was established in 1889 with a permanent force of 13. The police department today has a force of 84 police officers and a civilian support staff of 20. The men and women of the Bangor Police Department are committed to providing our community with the best in public safety. We have dedicated ourselves to work in partnership with our residents, business owners, and civic leaders for the purpose of deterring crime, protecting our city, and improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
