[ARCHIVED] City Hall to close each weekday at 4:15 p.m.

Comms Time Change (450 x 450 px)

BANGOR, Maine -- The City Council this week approved an order that will result in City Hall closing each weekday at 4:15 p.m.

The change in the closing time will take effect Monday, Aug. 11, which is the day that the historic City Hall at 73 Harlow St. reopens to the public following a 20-month renovation.

Nonessential municipal services for many years have concluded each work day at 4:30 p.m. But the City Clerk and Treasury office has experienced a steady increase in customers arriving at the close of business, requiring staff to work overtime on a regular basis. The departmental budget does not include funding for this extra overtime.

The change in hours will provide staff with 15 minutes at the end of the day to finish waiting on customers, and it’s anticipated that it will reduce the need for overtime.

City Hall will continue to open at 8 a.m. each weekday.
