Holiday Waste
Bangor residents who cannot fit their excess holiday waste in their roadside trash can may drop off their excess at the Bangor Public Works facility located 530 Maine Avenue. Residents will be able to drop off waste for one week only – January 3rd through January 9th. Drop off hours are from 7:00 am through sunset, Tuesday through Monday.
We will have a dumpster for wrapping paper, bows, packing peanuts/foam, natural or artificial wreaths, plastic, etc. There will be a separate dumpster for recycling cardboard only. Please do not mix your cardboard with any other materials such as wrapping paper – these will contaminate the cardboard, making it difficult to recycle. Regular household trash is not being accepted. Household waste must be disposed of in your regular roadside bin.
Christmas Tree Disposal Notice
Bangor residents may drop off their natural Christmas trees at the Bangor Public Works organic recycling yard on 530 Maine Avenue. Drop off hours are year-round from 7:00 am through sunset, 7 days/week. As part of the City’s commitment to recycling, the trees will be chipped, with some chips being used as a mulch and erosion control throughout the City. The remainder will be sold as biomass. We ask that you please remove all wire and/or metal objects from the trees. Residents without means of transportation may place their tree curbside. Curbside collection of trees will begin on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 and run through Friday, January 13, 2023.
Wreaths will not be collected for chipping either at the Public Works compound, or curbside. Discarded wreaths are to be placed curbside with residential trash on the scheduled collection day or may be taken to the Public Works Holiday Waste Collection, January 3rd – 9th.

Curbside Household Trash Collection Reminder
Don't forget the year-round curbside trash collection rules: As long as your household trash bags and recycling fit inside the bin and the lid can fully close, your household trash will be picked up. If garbage is sticking out of the can, above the rim of the trash can, your lid will not close, or if bags are piled on top of the lid, your trash will not be serviced that week. You will need to wait until your next scheduled pickup.
