Streetlight Placement Policy
The City has an established policy that guides where streetlights may be installed. In general:
 • Lights are placed at intersections
 • In densely developed areas, lights are typically installed on every other utility pole
 • In rural or less developed areas, lights may be placed on every third or fourth pole

Requests for new streetlights must be submitted in writing to:
 Public Works Department
 530 Maine Avenue
 Bangor, ME 04401

All requests are reviewed using the City’s placement standards. In unusual circumstances, additional review may occur in consultation with the Chief of Police and the City Engineer.

Report a Traffic Signal Issue
To report a malfunctioning traffic signal, residents may:
 • Submit a concern through SeeClickFix
• Call the Public Works Dispatcher at 207‑992‑4500

The City continues to modernize traffic signal systems to incorporate current computerized technology. Upgrades to the downtown traffic control system are currently in design. Many intersections use vehicle‑detection systems that activate signals when traffic is present. Some of these systems use video cameras; these cameras are used only for traffic control.
